Adaptogens, nootropics and mushrooms

What are adaptogens, nootropics and functional mushrooms?

Nootropics are supplements which can improve cognitive functions in healthy people. So this means they can support such things as memory, creativity, focus or mood - anything that's brain related.

Adaptogens on the other hand are plant extracts which support your body in adapting to and dealing with the stresses and strains of daily life. They can support both mental and physical responses to stress and help relax mind and body. They can also help to relieve fatigue and boost your immune system.

Some mushrooms can be considered as adaptogens while others are nootropics and some are both. Given their benefits they are often referred to in their own category as functional mushrooms.

You can read about the individual mushrooms we use as well as all our other nootropics and adaptogens in our Benefits section.

What should I expect from drinking Upraising coffee?

Depending on which Upraising coffee you are drinking, different nootropics and adaptogens with specific properties will be in action in your body.

Some benefits may be noticeable immediately after drinking a cup of coffee, but others will be cumulative. Some will not be noticeable at all, but will be working in the background. For example, the Live Well coffee will be supporting your immune system but it may take some time to realise that you haven't had a cold for a while.

Remember that everyone is different and reacts differently to nootropics and adaptogens. Given this, we recommend you to start drinking one cup of Upraising everyday for at least ten days and then see how you feel. Then you can get 1 to 3 cups a day and alternate different coffees if you like.

Oh, and don't worry, You won't get high! These are not psychedelic mushroom, but they are magic in their own way.

When and how often should I drink this coffee?

Just drink Upraising coffee whenever you would drink your regular coffee.

If this is your first time with our nootropic mushroom coffees, we recommend you start with one serving a day for a few days. Then you can build up to three servings a day if you like. Everyone is different and so the ideal amount is personal - just listen to your body.

Can I mix and match different Upraising coffees?

You totally can. It's actually recommended so as to get the full variety of benefits offered by each coffee.

You can drink different coffees during the day, or if you're brewing a large french press for example, feel free to include servings from different coffees in the same pot. Make sure to always follow our recommended brewing ratio for the perfect taste.

About our coffee and how to brew it perfectly

How does Upraising coffee taste?

Our coffee is 100% organic arabica from Colombia and it tastes like it. We went for a medium roast to ensure more delicate flavors and a smooth and well-balanced taste. We were keen to avoid creating another super strong and bitter black coffee.

The coffee is perfect for immersion, filter and pour-over devices.

And don't worry, our coffee definitely doesn't taste of mushrooms and the nootropics and adaptogens do not negatively affect the taste.

Our coffee isn't ground specifically for espresso machines. You can try it but we can't guarantee the quality of your cup!

Where does the coffee come from?

We source our green coffee beans in Colombia, from a small co-operative of farmers called "Orquídea" located in the Tolima area and the neighbouring region of Huila.

They take their coffee and their people seriously and are certified Fair Trade and Organic (EU & USDA).

Read more about it here.

Is Upraising coffee Organic?

Yes, our coffee is certified Organic for both the European Union and the United States. The certifcation is validated by the certifying third party Mayacert.

How do I brew the perfect coffee at home?

Most of us have been making coffee forever. However, we might not all be doing it right.

We have created these barista approved guides for you to make the ideal coffee using your favourite device.

As a summary, you can brew Upraising mushroom coffee with the following method of your choice :

- French Press / Cafetiere (15g of coffee per 240 ml of water)
- Moka pot / Italian coffee maker (15g of coffee / 100 ml of water)
- Pour-over devices / Chemex / V60 (15g of coffee per 240 ml of water)
- Automatic filter coffee machine (15g of coffee per 240 ml of water)

Make sure to follow our coffee making recommendations.

Our coffee isn't ground and roasted specifically for espresso machines. You can try it but we can't guarantee the quality of your cup!

What is a serving?

A serving represents the amount of coffee containing the specific quantity of nootropics & adaptogens detailed on each product packaging.

Our serving size is 15g of Upraising coffee.

This is the quantity we recommend to brew a cup of coffee of 240ml based on the standard approved brewing ratio of 1:16 (1g of coffee for 16ml of water).

How long can I keep the coffee for?

If the bag hasn't been opened, you can store it until at least the best before date on the back of the pack.

Once opened, we recommend using it within 30 days ideally so that the coffee doesn't lose too much freshness and taste. Make sure to keep it in a cool and dry environment.

Are Upraising products vegan and gluten free? Keto?

Our products only contain coffee and plant and mushroom extracts and not enough to impact a keto diet or a fast.
